Seventh and eighth grade Assets classes are in session at both Adams and Madison Middle Schools. The students will be helping organize activities at their respective school to commemorate Red Ribbon Week.
Youth development is about building leaders for a better tomorrow. Asset Teams are a leadership program for sixth, seventh and eighth graders that focuses on the Developmental Assets, which are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make. Using the 40 Developmental Assets, today’s youth are learning to create change by investing in their community.
Grounded in extensive research, Asset Teams give young people what they need to develop qualities that influence choices and help them to become caring, responsible adults. According to the Search Institute, “Assets not only promote positive behaviors, they also protect young people: The more assets a young person reports having, the less likely he or she is to make harmful or unhealthy choices.”

Our goal is to promote positive change within the school and community by encouraging all community members to assist in building assets within our children. All individuals have the power to make a difference, no matter who they are or what their lives are like. By ensuring that our youth receive consistent messages and treatment and building strong relationships between youth and adults, anyone can help build assets in our youth.
